From 2nd February 2022, the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) will be increasing the number of GoodSAM volunteers notified of patients in cardiac arrest.

GoodSAM application

The GoodSAM application has been used at EEAST to notify appropriately trained staff, volunteers and registered health care professionals of patients in cardiac arrest, within 800 meters of their location.

EEAST commenced a trial to deploy staff trained in basic life support (CPR) to these patients. This trial has proven to be successful and has led to us reviewing other groups of staff that we can notify and deploy.

Increased notification scope

EEAST is delighted to announce that they have increased notification scope to the following GoodSAM responder groups:

  • All responders from other Ambulance Services
  • Air Ambulance Services
  • Responders approved via GoodSAM
  • Nationally Governed
  • NHS Staff
  • Locally Governed
  • First Aider

The chain of survival

Getting help to these patients and getting an AED to them as quickly as possible makes a significant difference

Nicholas Jones, IM&T Service Delivery Manager (Clinical Applications) says, “The chain of survival for patients in cardiac arrest is critical. Getting help to these patients and getting an AED to them as quickly as possible makes a significant difference."

"Our trial with Cambridgeshire Constabulary has demonstrated the positive impact that GoodSAM responders have and has proved that they can be deployed safely and effectively.

"We look forward to seeing more GoodSAM deployments over the coming days and weeks and we will continue to review for further changes and improvements.”

Sign-up request

Health care worker, health care professional, firefighter, police officer or a first aider having an in-date certificate to evidence this, are requested to sign up to GoodSAM and download the GoodSAM Responder app.
