Following development that commenced in 2015, a new level 3 Apprenticeship standard for Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians was launched in 2018, as a part of the government's Trailblazer program.

The Level 3 Apprenticeship Plumbing & Domestic Heating Technician is approximately a 4-year program, including a mandatory fuel or renewables pathway and End-Point Assessment.

low-carbon economy

This program has had some time to establish itself and run through to a conclusion. As the apprenticeship is reviewed, CIC is seeking as many views as possible on the delivery of education and routes into careers in the plumbing industry.

As the industry adapts to its role in transitioning to a low-carbon economy, this includes consideration of issues around renewables, low-temperature systems, and different fuels used. With this in mind, CIC is also seeking contributions regarding training of the existing plumbing and heating industry workforce and professional recognition through experienced worker schemes.
