Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a large fire at a pallet yard at Minto in Sydney’s south-west. More than 50 firefighters and 12 fire trucks responded to multiple Triple Zero (000) calls to a fire at a pallet factory on Huntsmore Road just after 12.30 this morning.
On arrival, crews found the yard, measuring approximately 20 by 50 meters, containing stacked pallets, engulfed by fire, and identified two adjacent factories under threat.
NSW Police for further investigation
Firefighters quickly got to work, attacking the blaze on all sides. The yard’s large quantities of timber and the fire's intense radiant heat posed significant challenges, with the sides of trucks, parked 20 meters away, partially melted, and spot fires ignited in nearby stacks of wood.
It took around two hours to get the fire under control. Crews took another two hours to mop up the scene, using a forklift to break up the pallet stacks. FRNSW saved approximately 90 percent of the timber yard and assets, including timber-cutting machinery and two trucks loaded with pallets. The site has been handed over to NSW Police for further investigation into the cause of the fire.
