Homes and buildings require the installation of ventilation systems to improve air quality, reduce smoke levels, and moderate internal temperatures.

Stale air is removed to allow fresh air to enter, while also removing excessive moisture to reduce condensation dampness. Passive fire products offer effective protection against ventilation systems at high risk of causing fires.

Values of ventilation protection

Multi-storey buildings are at particular risk of fire damage due to complex ventilation systems which are unprotected. Air circulation causes fires to rapidly spread throughout buildings.

  • Ducting - Ventilation ducting is present to remove and supply air to buildings to improve air quality and thermal comfort. Protect the pipes with intumescent collars or sleeves.
  • Airflow - Intumescent block grilles will improve airflow into buildings, whilst the intumescent will expand to seal the gaps in the event of a fire, blocking dangerous smoke and fire.
  • Extractors - In recent years, extractor fans and ventilation systems have been known to cause fires in bathrooms and kitchen areas due to a lack of maintenance and protection.
  • Certified - The passive fire products are certified and meet criteria under Approved Document B of UK Building Regs. Their products effectively protect homes and building complexes.
  • Grills - Ventilation systems designed with grille plates often are damaged by fires or excessive heat. Installing intumescent plates into the grille will offer passive fire protection.
  • Overheating - Ventilation equipment such as air conditioning units often becomes overheated. Regular maintenance and intumescent installation prevent fire spread caused by these issues.
  • Building protection - In recent years, AOV systems and other ventilation systems have been known to fail or collapse in the event of a fire. Their passive fire products offer full protection against the spread of smoke and fire in buildings.
