Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) teams have successfully evacuated approximately 50 individuals following a gas leak at an apartment complex in North Sydney.
The incident, which occurred when construction workers reportedly damaged a gas main on William Street just before 12:30 PM, prompted an immediate response to ensure public safety.
Collaborative Response Efforts
The operation saw NSW Police partnering with firefighters from the Crows Nest and Neutral Bay stations to clear the surrounding premises. In a bid to secure the area, fire crews set up two hose lines as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, they are closely monitoring atmospheric conditions as technicians from the gas company work to fix the breach, a task expected to require several hours of effort.
Access Restrictions and Safety Measures
An exclusion zone remains enforced on William Street to mitigate risks, barring both pedestrian and vehicular entry into the affected vicinity. This safety measure is crucial to protect both residents and workers as repair operations are underway.
