Fire crews from Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) successfully contained a significant fire at a vehicle scrap yard in Trenayr, located north of Grafton in the northern rivers district.
The blaze, characterized by explosions and towering flames, necessitated a rapid response from more than 15 fire trucks late in the afternoon, just before 6 pm.
Emergency Response and Impact
The fire erupted in rows of scrapped cars, stacked up to 10 vehicles high, creating a massive plume of black, toxic smoke that rose into the sky.
In addition to FRNSW, the New South Wales Police, New South Wales Ambulance, and Rural Fire Service (RFS) teams were dispatched to the scene to support firefighting efforts and provide emergency services.
A firefighter sustained a head injury while battling the flames and was taken to a hospital for observation before being released.
Blaze Control and Ongoing Investigation
Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control by 9 pm, although teams remained onsite the following morning to monitor for and respond to any remaining hot spots. The incident is currently under investigation by New South Wales Police to determine the fire's cause, with further details to be released as they become available.
