Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters are still trying to extinguish a massive factory fire in Wetherill Park in Sydney's west after a blaze tore through the premises overnight.

The intense 14th alarm fire has destroyed a pallet factory in Redfern Street and damaged neighbouring properties. FRNSW received multiple Triple Zero (000) calls to the premises around 9.15 pm, with the first arriving crew reporting approximately 400 wooden pallets well alight.

Firefighters urgently called for additional resources before getting to work, tackling the blaze from all sides. At the height of the fire, more than 40 fire trucks and 150 firefighters from across Sydney responded to the emergency.

Two aerial trucks and more than 40 firefighters remain on scene, working to completely extinguish the fire. A HAZMAT crew is monitoring air and water quality.

Operations to continue

Operations are expected to continue throughout the day. NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and NSW EPA, along with gas and electricity authorities and traffic management, are also assisting with the incident.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the blaze is yet to be determined.
