Lorient designs and manufactures high quality intumescent air transfer grilles that combine air movement with fire protection – making buildings safer & more comfortable for occupants to live in.

In everyday use, intumescent grilles allow air to circulate freely throughout a building; but in a fire, the intumescent expands to form a solid block that stops the fire from spreading.

What types of air transfer grille products should be used?

Lorient manufactures a wide range of high-performance intumescent grillesIt is essential to select an intumescent or fire rated grille that is appropriate to the required application in terms of: fire resistance, smoke leakage, volumetric flow, pressure drop, reliability and dimensional compatibility with the supporting construction.

It is also worth noting that manufacturer’s evidence should always be followed – if a product has been tested with cover grilles (steel or aluminium), then they must form part of the sealing system.

Lorient manufactures a wide range of high-performance intumescent grilles that have been tested with timber, mineral composite and steel fire doors. Simply filter the ATG Product Selector to 'doors' to view all of our tested applications.

Airflow with Fire Protection

Smoke containment whilst maintaining airflow is perhaps the most critical area for intumescent products. The thickness of the door makes it very difficult to introduce mechanical dampers.

So here the inclusion of shutter plates with a thinner intumescent fire block on both sides allows fitment in standard 44mm FD30S fire doors, as well as thicker FD60S doors.

Smart Fire Safety Solutions

Lorient offers a range of combined intumescent fire and smoke air transfer grilles that allow the passage of air during normal operation.

These are connected via a control panel (Lorient’s Talkback System) to a standard fire alarm system. In the event of an alarm condition, the dampers shut in order to maintain the smoke leakage rate for the door assembly, as defined in the relevant smoke leakage test standard.
