Oshkosh Airport Products, a division within Pierce Manufacturing Inc. and part of Oshkosh Corporation, has announced that Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) has received an Oshkosh Striker 6x6 Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle.
This addition strengthens the airport’s existing ARFF fleet, which is composed entirely of Oshkosh vehicles, underscoring the airport's commitment to maintaining top-tier operational safety and emergency preparedness.
Punta Cana International Airport is a primary hub for the Caribbean and a key global tourist destination, catering to millions of international travelers each year. The airport's readiness to support both its aviation operations and the local community is evidenced by its fleet, which includes both Oshkosh ARFF vehicles and Pierce mini pumpers, ensuring comprehensive safety and service.

Adolfo Elías Rodríguez Barclay, Operations Manager for Punta Cana Airport, added that the vehicle ensures the team's full readiness to tackle emergencies both within the airport premises and the surrounding territories.

Features of the Striker 6x6 ARFF Vehicle
- TAK-4 Independent Suspension for exceptional mobility and handling
- 3,000-gallon (11,356 L) water capacity
- 420-gallon (1,590 L) foam capacity
- Roof turret and low attack bumper turrets with discharge rates of up to 1,250 GPM (79 L/sec) reaching 230 feet (70 m)
- Oshkosh Eco-EFP foam system for sustainable foam testing and delivery
- 550 pounds (249 kg) of dry chemical capacity with dual-agent hose reel, optimized for Class B fuel fires
- 10kW generator to supply critical systems with power, independent of external sources
Meeting Geographic and Environmental Challenges
The Striker 6x6 was specifically chosen for its ability to handle the unique geographic and environmental hurdles present in Punta Cana, such as hurricanes and flooding.
Robert Colon noted that its high power-to-weight ratio, tight turning radius, and robust onboard power enable quick and dependable responses over both airport grounds and hard-to-reach areas.
The vehicle's delivery and on-site commissioning took place in September 2025. During this period, Oshkosh Airport Products’ International Field Service Representatives conducted extensive operator and maintenance training, ensuring that the vehicle's features are fully leveraged for optimal performance.
