Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have begun training on one of its latest replacement vehicles, a $950,000 state-of-the-art Pumper appliance being stationed at Mascot, in Sydney’s inner south. The Scania P320 Class 3 is fitted with in-cabin Breathing Apparatus-equipped seating for five firefighters.
It features a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS), which allows the truck to significantly reduce water usage, allowing a more efficient dispersal of foam and water and reducing run-off when extinguishing fires.
Its ‘all-round’ capabilities make it the perfect fire truck to respond to emergencies in the Mascot area, which takes in suburban homes and industrial businesses.
Specialist training sessions
The Pumper will also support existing fire services at Sydney Airport in case of major emergencies. Emergency Services Minister, Jihad Dib, said the crews at Mascot Fire Station are familiarizing themselves with their new million-dollar vehicle through specialist training sessions.

“This fire truck is one of 20 new appliances that FRNSW is investing in as part of its $18.6m Fleet Replacement Program for 2024/25,” Minister Dib said. “As existing fire trucks reach their shelf life, we’re replacing them with the latest, high-tech models to protect the communities of NSW.”
Safeguarding local communities
FRNSW Deputy Commissioner – Strategic Capability, Megan Stiffler, said the ongoing modernization of the fleet is a key priority for the fire service.
“Our Fleet Replacement Program allows us to invest in the best fire appliances available anywhere in the world,” said Deputy Commissioner - Megan Stiffler, adding “When our trucks are deemed no longer fit for service, we weigh up the existing and emerging fire protection needs of the area and replace those vehicles with the best models on the market to safeguard local communities.”
