Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has installed a new $470,000 state-of-the-art firefighting truck at Young, in the state’s Hilltops region, enhancing its emergency response and rescue capabilities in the local community.

The Compressed Air Foam System (CAFs) Class 2 Pumper allows firefighters to tackle structural, chemical, petrol, and grass fires using up to five times less water than normal.

Best equipment and technology

The highly efficient system combines foam concentrate with compressed air to supply fire hoses with superior ‘knock down’ capability while reducing smoke from the fire.

Minister for Emergency Services, Jihad Dib, said the NSW Government is committed to providing firefighters with the best equipment and technology available to support their vital work in protecting life and property.

Rollout of new response vehicles

FRNSW provides its firefighters with modern vehicles with advanced capabilities to protect NSW

This appliance is part of a rollout of new response vehicles across the state, ensuring our firefighters have the best resources available to manage all types of fires and other emergency incidents,” Minister Dib said.

FRNSW Area Commander Superintendent, Greg Buckley, said FRNSW provides its firefighters with modern vehicles with advanced capabilities to protect NSW families.

New and modern vehicles

This innovative new truck will give our firefighters the edge when responding to emergencies and will enable us to better protect our communities,” said Superintendent Greg Buckley.

On average, FRNSW replaces up to 40 vehicles each year with brand new and modern vehicles as part of a $17 million annual program.
