In the early hours of the morning, Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) tackled a fierce blaze that decimated the historic Commercial Hotel in Yass, located in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.
The intense firefighting effort spanned more than five hours.
Coordinated Response
Over 40 firefighters from FRNSW, the Rural Fire Service, and ACT Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene of the fire, which ignited on Comur Street just before 2 AM.
The scale of the fire necessitated immediate support from surrounding fire brigades.
Deployment of Specialized Equipment
As the blaze rapidly engulfed the two-level structure, it threatened the safety of nearby buildings, including a carpet business. This prompted initial responders to urgently request further assistance.
An FRNSW aerial pumping truck was deployed to combat the fire from both ground and aerial perspectives, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Concerns Over Structural Integrity
After a strenuous six-hour firefight, crews managed to extinguish the flames. However, due to fears of potentially dangerous structural collapses of the outer walls, an exclusion zone was established to ensure safety.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. However, authorities are treating the origin of the fire as suspicious and are conducting further investigations.
