In a significant stride for the Liverpool Waters regeneration initiative, Comelit-PAC has successfully partnered with Merselec Ltd and Romal Capital to implement a cutting-edge fire safety system at the newly developed Aquitania at West Waterloo Place.
Liverpool Waters stands as one of Europe’s most extensive regeneration efforts, with a transformative vision for the historic docks, integrating lively mixed-use developments along the waterfront.
Romal’s Aquitania project marks a pivotal moment in this transformation, featuring advanced architectural designs alongside comprehensive life safety measures for its 135 premium apartments and townhouses.
Ensuring Fire Safety Compliance
The CEO of Romal Capital, Greg Malouf, emphasized the paramount importance of safety, stating, “Resident safety was our highest priority. From the initial design stage, we worked with Comelit-PAC to ensure the fire system would meet legislation alongside the expectations of a smart, stylish development."
"The installed solution provides the protection we need and the flexibility to manage operations efficiently. We’re already planning to extend the works into our phase four, Mauretania.”
Intelligent Network Integration
The system integrates fire detection with smoke extraction and lift control to ensure the building parts
This collaborative initiative with Merselec Ltd, a specialist contractor, has resulted in a customized fire safety system that covers all escape and circulation routes.
Utilizing programmed cause-and-effect logic, the system integrates fire detection with smoke extraction and lift management to ensure the building functions as a cohesive, intelligent response unit during emergencies.
A notable feature of this system is its integration with automatic opening vents (AOVs). These vents activate immediately when smoke control is necessary, featuring lockout functions to manage airflow and direct smoke away from evacuation routes. Additionally, the system links with lift operations to ensure safe use during incidents.
Cloud-Based Monitoring for Enhanced Management
Jon Wilcock from Merselec Ltd commented on the technical rigor of the project, noting, “The integration requirements and performance standards made this a technically demanding project. Our close collaboration with Comelit-PAC allowed us to deliver a robust system that performs reliably in a live residential environment and could be installed to blend with its luxury surroundings.”
To facilitate efficient day-to-day management, Comelit-PAC has incorporated cloud-based remote monitoring, offering building managers real-time updates and instant alerts for quick response and preventive maintenance.
Continued Collaborative Efforts
Mandy Bowden, Fire Manager at Comelit-PAC, remarked, “Aquitania’s complexity required a carefully coordinated approach that blended technical performance with the building and apartments' esthetic design principles. Our partnership with Merselec Ltd delivered a tailored solution with remote monitoring capabilities, ensuring both resident safety and ease of management. We look forward to continuing our work together on phase three.”
This collaboration extends to the next phase, the Mauretania, which will introduce 129 new apartments in Liverpool Waters’ Central Docks neighborhood, contributing further to the city's redevelopment at West Waterloo Place.
