  • Tarro Fire Station enhances field capabilities with a new Bushfire Tanker upgrade.
  • Isuzu tanker features CAFS, 3500L water tank, and Halo water spray system.
  • New fleet increases efficiency, environmental friendliness in tackling highway and bushfire emergencies.

Tarro Fire Station has received another fleet upgrade with the arrival of a new, state-of-the-art light Bushfire Tanker. The truck is one of 18 new firefighting appliances being deployed across NSW to help better protect communities during bushfires and other emergencies.

The multi-purpose vehicle is an Isuzu four-wheel drive and is equipped with a water spray system to protect the crew, a compressed air foam system (CAFS), and a 3500-liter water tank. The tanker complements another CAFS pumper allocated to the station last year.

The new tanker dramatically increases his crew’s capabilities in the field

Tarro Captain, Scott Pyne, says the new tanker dramatically increases his crew’s capabilities in the field.

This tanker allows us to tackle emergencies like truck fires on the highway more efficiently because the CAFS system extinguishes blazes a lot faster, reducing harm to people and damage to property and the environment,” said Captain Scott Pyne.

He adds, “When you pair it with our other recently-acquired fire engine, we’re proud to show off our new, modern fleet. The tanker is also designed to handle rugged terrain, which means it can join FRNSW Strike Teams when necessary to combat bushfire emergencies in the Hunter.”

Environmentally friendly

Emergency Services Minister, Jihad Dib, said the fleet of new tankers comes fitted with so-called ‘Halo’ systems, which spray shields of water over the cabs to protect fire crews.

Jihad Dib said, “The trucks are more effective in fighting fires, and the CAFS upgrades make them more environmentally friendly so our firefighting crews can continue the life-saving work they do and protect themselves, as well as they protect others.”
