Fire and Rescue NSW will be undertaking a hazard reduction burn on North Head located near Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Smoke from the planned hazard reduction burn may settle in and around the Manly area and will be visible from a long distance away.

This is an important prescribed burn which will reduce the risk to people and properties from future bush fires. If users have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take their reliever medicine or seek medical advice.

Here are some tips to stay safe during hazard reduction burning:
- Monitor the NSW Rural Fire Service hazard reduction page for information about planned burns and smoke advisories in their area.
- Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering home.
- Remove washing from clotheslines.
- Ensure pets have a protected area.
- If users are driving through a smoky area, slow down, keep the windows up and turn the headlights on.
- Don’t call Triple Zero just to report that it’s smoky. Save Triple Zero for emergencies.
