The official FDSW campaign released compelling research concerning fire door maintenance, inspection, and replacement programs within UK local authority-managed housing. The British Woodworking Federation expressed concerns regarding the impact of COVID-19 on service delivery in various sectors, noting that fire risks persist regardless of the pandemic.
The prolonged stay at home during lockdown increased risks for residents lacking functional fire doors, underscoring the need for sustained focus on building safety across all types of accommodations.

Fire door inspections are critical, as these doors can incur damage at any time, particularly in high-use areas. Unidentified damages prevent fire doors from fulfilling their life-saving roles.

Making Fire Doors a Priority
The official FDSW campaign released some startling research into the state of fire door maintenance, inspection and replacement programmes across local authority owned and managed housing in the UK – see below. The British Woodworking Federation stated:
"It’s clear COVID-19 has understandably impacted on service delivery across a variety of sectors, but fires don’t stop. With the UK lockdown period forcing many people to spend more time at home, people without fit for purpose fire doors have been put at risk. There is a need for continued and urgent focus on ensuring the safety of all building occupants whether in local authority or privately-rented accommodation, workplaces or other building types."
