Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is responding to a major Hazmat incident at an industrial complex at Girraween, in Sydney's west.
Thirty firefighters and eight fire trucks were called to the incident on Mandoon Road, just after 1:30 pm. Occupants of units within the industrial complex had originally reported explosions and yellow colored smoke emitting from a drain.
Source of the smoke
Firefighters, specializing in chemicals and wearing safety suits, moved through the buildings in the complex looking to find the source of the smoke. Eighty people have been moved to safety from the various units, and an exclusion zone has been established at the scene.
NSW Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics are also present at the incident. The situation is currently stable with Fire and Rescue NSW working with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to determine the cause of the explosions.
