  • Over 50 firefighters and 16 engines deployed for fourth alarm blaze at tire workshop.
  • Residents advised to stay indoors due to thick, acrid smoke; fire cause unknown.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) is urging residents of Brookvale, on Sydney’s northern beaches, to take precautions tonight against thick, black smoke emanating from a large fire at a local industrial estate.

Sixteen fire engines, including three aerial and ladder appliances, and more than 50 firefighters are battling the ‘fourth alarm’ blaze in a row of brick and iron factory units in Old Pittwater Road. Flames have engulfed a tire and mechanical workshop, creating thick, acrid smoke.

Fire crews

Several cars have been damaged by the fire and falling debris. Fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus, have established a defensive perimeter and saved a number of other vehicles, as they attempt to contain the fire, which broke out around 6.45pm.

There have been no reports of injuries. Local residents are being urged to stay indoors and shut any windows, if they are at risk of being affected by smoke. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
