Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) has adopted advanced command center technology from Motorola Solutions, including their Control Room Solution (CRS), to boost the effectiveness of call handling and emergency dispatch operations. This technology is set to enhance Leicestershire FRS’s responsiveness, promoting both frontline efficiency and community safety, with ongoing software maintenance ensuring system reliability.
Supporting a Large Population
Tasked with the safety of over one million residents across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland, the Leicestershire FRS responds to approximately 15,000 calls and handles 8,000 emergency incidents annually. The service tackles a diverse array of emergencies, such as fires, road traffic accidents, and search and rescue operations, while also offering vital fire prevention and community safety services.
Importance of the Control Room
"Our control room is integral to our emergency response capabilities. It is the first point of contact in any emergency and acts as the 'eyes and ears' for our teams," highlighted Callum Faint, chief fire and rescue officer of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. He emphasized the critical role of emergency call handlers in managing fast-paced and unpredictable scenarios, ensuring rapid information relay to response teams to safeguard community and personnel safety.
Integrated Communication System
Motorola Solutions’ CRS unifies control room communications, providing a seamless system that accelerates response times and increases operational efficiency. This cloud-based solution allows for a comprehensive view of incidents with data integration from various sources, including real-time field updates, and offers secure media storage. It is particularly beneficial during spate conditions, enabling collaborative efforts among fire services when faced with multiple emergencies.
Workflow Enhancements
“We have developed a solution that enhances the tools available to the control room while simplifying workflows," noted Fergus Mayne, U.K. and Ireland Country Manager at Motorola Solutions. The focus is on enabling operators to efficiently handle calls and dispatch resources swiftly and effectively.

“Emergency call handlers operate in fast-moving and uncertain environments. They need to be able to gather vital information from emergency calls and quickly relay the details to response teams to help ensure the safety of frontline personnel as they work to protect communities.”
Single intuitive system

The hosted solution enables the control room to build a clear picture of events from multiple data sources, including real-time data from devices in the field and provides secure bulk storage for media assets.
It supports collaboration and mutual aid between fire services during spate conditions, where a large number of calls are received simultaneously across multiple locations.
Simplifying workflows
“We have developed a solution that enhances the tools available to the control room while simplifying workflows,” said Fergus Mayne, U.K. and Ireland country manager, Motorola Solutions.
“Our objective is always to enable control room operators to focus on the call at hand, allowing them to dispatch the appropriate resource as efficiently as possible.”
