When tragedies like Hurricane Ian strike, first responders are there to help their community. But they are also the victims of the same disaster. To help volunteer firefighters and EMS providers in the wake of a large-scale disaster or home fire, the NVFC provides the Volunteer Firefighter Support Fund.

Stipend to assist first responders

Eligible volunteer responders whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by a state- or federally-declared disaster or home fire can apply for a stipend of $350 to help meet their basic needs in the aftermath.

The fund was created in response to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. To date, more than $750,000 has been distributed to volunteer firefighters and EMS providers in need. The fund relies on the support of individuals and organizations to assist volunteer first responders impacted by disasters. 100% of donations go to volunteer responders in need; the NVFC donates all administrative costs.
