Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a fire outside a large factory at Wetherill Park, in Sydney's west.
Around 1 pm, more than 50 firefighters and 15 fire trucks were deployed to Redfern Street, where a blaze had broken out in a yard behind a warehouse, used to make tissues, toilet paper, kitchen towels, and napkins.
In-built sprinkler system
Flames engulfed several large stacks of paper rolls in a sheltered area next to the structure. An in-built sprinkler system at the facility activated and began to douse the piles; however, they continued to burn. FRNSW crews quickly stopped the fire from spreading to the nearby building.
They've since pulled apart the stacks to access the seat of the fire and extinguish it. Eighty people were evacuated from the business as a precaution, and there are no reports of injuries as a result of the incident. Firefighters continue to monitor the scene for potential re-ignitions.
