On February 29, 2020, units from Company 11 where alerted to respond to a house fire on the 2200 Blk of Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville (Co. 1’s area). Chief 811A and Engine 111 had just cleared a separate incident on Queens Chapel Road when they were dispatched to the reported house fire just 2 blocks away.

Chief 811A was the first unit to arrive on the scene and reported smoke showing from the house. Engine 111, initially dispatched as 4th due, arrived on the scene as the first engine and initiated a fire attack. Interior crews worked to quickly locate and extinguish the fire inside the home. Units from Company 11 operated on the scene for approximately 2 hours.

This incident occurred just a few hours before Branchville’s 96th Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony. They would like to recognize the College Park Volunteer Fire Department (Co. 12) for sending members to relieve the crews on scene and staff the station during banquet night. With their help, members from Branchville were able to enjoy their evening while our first due area remained protected with uninterrupted Fire/EMS coverage.
