The SOCOTEC Group, an internationally recognized leader in the testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) sectors for construction and infrastructure, has made significant strides in Germany over the past 15 years. The company's initial entry into the German market began in 2008 with the acquisition of Canzler, a firm specializing in consulting, engineering, and managing complex real estate projects. This was followed by the addition of ZPP Ingenieure in 2017, a company renowned for its technical expertise in infrastructure and energy projects, and Schollenberger Kampfmittelbergung in 2018, known for its pioneering work in Explosive Ordnance Detection (EOD) services.
Strategic Expansion in the German Market
SOCOTEC has maintained a strong strategic drive over the years, underscored by the acquisition of four companies since the start of this year—adding to five previous acquisitions between 2020 and 2022. These moves highlight SOCOTEC's ambition to solidify its presence and influence in Germany’s Engineering, Testing, Inspection, and Certification markets within construction and infrastructure.
Hervé Montjotin, CEO of SOCOTEC Group, emphasized the importance of Germany to their overall strategy, stating, “Germany is a key market for SOCOTEC as it offers high technical expertise. Adding-up new workforce and expanding our skillset in the country is part of our ambition to become a national leader.” He also noted SOCOTEC’s role in addressing challenges related to the energy turnaround plan and the development of sustainable buildings and infrastructure.
Strengthening Geographical Footprint
With a team of 1,000 experts, SOCOTEC Germany achieved a turnover of €132M in 2022, covering fields such as civil engineering, architecture, project management, technical inspections, building performance, and EOD services. The latest acquisitions are designed to enhance this presence and expertise further:
- Marx Ingenieure im Bauwesen, based near Aachen, joins the Infrastructure vertical, offering high-quality engineering services with a team of 15.
- Based in Burgdorf near Hanover, the architecture firm Architekten Höhlich & Schmotz, with a staff of 30, bolsters the Building and Real Estate vertical, significantly increasing architectural capabilities across the nation.
- The Düsseldorf-based Erdmann+Brandmann Beratende Ingenieure, with 10 members, enhances the Infrastructure branch with its expertise in structural design and testing.
- Stredich Beratende Ingenieure in Bochum, comprising 10 specialists, focuses on consulting and supervising technical equipment for transportation infrastructures like tunnels and bridges.
Vision for Future Growth
According to Ludger Speier, CEO of SOCOTEC Germany, the company’s achievements stem from a clear, shared vision established with the inception of the SOCOTEC Germany platform. “Every outstanding success needs a clear vision,” he remarked. “We have strategically expanded and consolidated our service portfolio. We will continue on this course in the future.”
