VIKING Norsafe leads the industry in the development of equipment which is assured to perform on a particular installation, at a specific location, in harsh weather conditions.

They have engaged with high technology partners to develop compliance processes and methods which can provide safety-critical verifications. The tools created for this design and verification are technically exclusive to VIKING Norsafe and mean that equipment can be defined to Performance Standards.

Daily safety processes

VIKING Norsafe has the widest range of products approved to Norwegian Offshore Performance Standards, which includes three free fall lifeboats and davit systems, four conventional lifeboats and davits and three rescue boats and davits. This enables users to use ALARP ("As Low As Reasonably Possible") risk assessment of LSA Equipment as part of daily safety processes.

DropSim technology is based on an extensive development project consisting of CFD Analysis

Exclusive to VIKING Norsafe, DropSim technology is based on an extensive development project consisting of CFD Analysis, model testing in 1:13 and then 1:4 scale in test tanks. It is used to simulate the launch trajectory of free-fall lifeboats from host locations in all conceivable conditions - thousands of launch cases are generated to prove that the free-fall lifeboat installation is statistically demonstrated.

Conventional lifeboat launch

The results from DropSim are compiled and verified by full scale testing including monitoring as required in DNVGL-ST-E406. Full scale acceptance testing - to verify the findings of DropSim - is completed either onboard or at VIKING Norsafe Academy. Hereby avoiding schedule issues and crew risk.

Exclusive to VIKING Norsafe, DavitSim technology allows operators to verify that occupant safety is equivalent to free-fall lifeboats, meeting DNVGL-ST-E406. This is achieved by simulations of human injury prediction for conventional lifeboat launch from the host installation - showing safe lowering, hook release and sailaway.
