The Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has bolstered its capabilities in Sydney's southwest by deploying a specialized fire appliance at the newly inaugurated Oran Park station.
This installation introduces the Scania P320 V3 Class 3 CAFS Pumper, one of the two advanced fire fighting vehicles now stationed on Southwell Road, following the station's recent opening by FRNSW Commissioner Paul Baxter.
Dual Functionality for Enhanced Response
The Scania P320 functions as a dual-purpose vehicle, serving both as a Pumper and Hazmat unit. This design allows it to effectively tackle fires and hazardous materials incidents throughout the southwestern suburbs.
Equipped with advanced technology, the appliance stands ready to support diverse emergency scenarios that may arise in the region.
Compressed Air Foam System Efficiency
Among its sophisticated features, the vehicle is equipped with a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS). This innovative system combines foam with water, enhancing the efficiency of fire extinguishment.
Zone Commander Greg Wright emphasized the multifaceted nature of these vehicles, noting, "All FRNSW vehicles are considered 'jacks of all trades' but these new combined pumpers carry specialist Hazmat detection equipment as part of their standard inventory."
Superintendent Wright elaborated on their capabilities, stating, "That means they can turn out to all types of emergencies, bringing specialist equipment and expertise to hazardous materials incidents with their cross-trained crews."
Raising Regional Incident Response Standards
The integration of this appliance, alongside the existing 'Heavy Hazmat' truck at Oran Park station, significantly enhances the emergency response potential for New South Wales' southwest sector.
Superintendent Wright expressed pride in these advancements, declaring, “I’m immensely proud that we can serve our communities with the best equipment, new vehicles and dedicated firefighters, who have been provided specialist training to deal with chemical incidents, gas leaks and other emergencies.”
