Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have extinguished a major factory fire in Sydney's south-west.
Just before 4 am this morning, a Triple Zero (000) emergency call alerted firefighters to a plastic pipe manufacturing business, engulfed by flames on Woodpark Rd, Smithfield.
FRNSW rushed 25 trucks and more than 100 firefighters to the scene to deal with the fire that was raging through part of the factory, with flames bursting through the roof.

Thirty factory workers escaped the factory before the fire spread, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters are dampening asbestos found on the factory roof to suppress any fibers. Hazmat technicians and an FRNSW Scientific Officer are also on scene, securing a supply of chlorine gas.
FRNSW is liaising with the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), NSW Public Works, the local council, and building management about the safety measures at the site. Firefighters are also updating neighboring business owners about the ongoing operations.
Woodpark Road is currently closed until further notice. FRNSW Investigators will now look to determine what started the fire.
