Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) has been called to a serious truck crash in Vineyard in Sydney's North West. Two semi-trailers collided head-on at the intersection of Chapman Road and Windsor Road just before 12.30pm.
Five fire trucks and 20 firefighters arrived on scene to find one truck fully engulfed in flames and spreading to the other truck and trailer that was carrying an excavator.
Quick response from FRNSW
Crews quickly got to work and contained the intense blaze within about an hour
Although explosions were taking place, crews quickly got to work and contained the intense blaze within about an hour.
Both drivers have been transported to hospital and a 200 metre exclusion zone has been established for safety reasons. Specialist Hazmat crews are also on scene, decanting the fuel tanks of the vehicles.
Assessing impact
Some fuel entered nearby drains prior to FRNSW's arrival and NSW EPA and Council have been called in to assess the impact. Firefighters have since blocked the drains to stop any further spillage from entering them.
Windsor Road is closed at the intersection of Bandon Road in both directions, and motorists are being urged to avoid the area. NSW Police and NSW Ambulance are also in attendance at the incident.
