A Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crew became engaged in a real-life game of snakes and ladders now, trying to catch a slippery serpent on the loose in Sydney's south.
The crew from Menai fire station was called to Gymea Bay Road around 8 am amid reports of a snake inside a house.

When firefighters arrived, the two-meter diamond python made a 'slither for it,' racing out of the home and into a tree in the backyard.
The non-venomous reptilian intruder tried to 'scale' the back fence but was quickly corralled by Firefighter, Carly McLachlan, and bagged.
FRNSW assists the WIRES wildlife rescue organization with snake-snaring missions in areas where the suburbs meet the bush. FRNSW Captain, Brady Clarke, says it's not uncommon to find these types of unwanted guests seeking refuge in homes around the Sutherland Shire.
Firefighters regular training
"Our firefighters are prepared for anything, even snake recoveries, and we conduct regular training to maintain our snake-wrangling skills to assist the community," said Captain Clarke.
Carly and her colleagues released the python into adjoining bushland without further incident, and the rest is "history."
