Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) is actively engaged in flood recovery efforts across Central West NSW, aiding residents and businesses affected by recent floodwaters. As certain areas begin the clean-up process, others must wait for water levels to subside.
FRNSW Strike Team and HAZMAT Clean-Up Efforts
FRNSW's Strike Team 'Oscar' along with HAZMAT specialists have been working to clear decomposing meat from a butcher shop in the heavily flooded town of Eugowra. The decay was caused by an inundation of floodwaters and subsequent power outages. Firefighters have facilitated the safe transport and disposal of the spoiled meat to the local tip, thoroughly decontaminating and sanitizing the premises to prepare it for future restocking and safe operation.
Additional Support in Flood-Affected Areas
Apart from tackling the butcher shop, FRNSW teams have also been instrumental in cleaning Eugowra's supermarket, removing mud and debris to restore functionality. Additional teams have been deployed to Forbes and Parkes, where they are actively participating in ongoing recovery efforts.
Challenges from Lachlan River Outflows
The recovery is complicated by high outflow levels from the Lachlan River, delaying progress as these waters are expected to take some time to recede. Meanwhile, FRNSW is preparing to bolster its efforts with the addition of in-water rescue specialists from Singapore, who will be integrating into NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES)-led operations in Parkes and Wagga Wagga tomorrow.
