Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) have successfully rescued a six-week-old kitten that had become trapped inside a cavity wall at a unit block in Sydney's inner west.
The rescue operation took place at a complex on Burwood Road, Burwood, shortly after 8 a.m., following a resident's report of hearing persistent meowing.
Discovery and Rescue Operation
Initially, there was speculation that the kitten might have been stuck in the ventilation system located in the ceiling.
However, upon further investigation, the FRNSW team discovered that the kitten was, in fact, tucked behind the brickwork of the building. It is thought that the kitten had been stranded for almost a day before the rescue team arrived.
Kitten Returned to Safety
The firefighters proceeded to carefully break apart a section of fibro using a hammer and chisel, creating an opening through which the kitten could walk to safety.
The kitten, believed to be a stray, was unharmed and has since been joyfully reunited with its mother.
