A Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighter has been nationally recognized for her dedication to community fire protection, even in the face of personal loss. Leading Firefighter Erin Pogmore, a key figure at the Liverpool Fire Station in Sydney's southwest, has been named 'Officer of the Year' in the 2023 Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA).
This award includes participants from the ACT, NSW, and Victoria, spanning both paid and volunteer emergency personnel. Pogmore received the accolade from His Excellency General, the Honorable David Hurley AC DSC, and Her Excellency Mrs. Linda Hurley during a ceremony at Government House in Canberra.

Erin Pogmore's career within emergency services encompasses over 20 years, 11 of which have been dedicated to Fire and Rescue NSW. Her expertise as a swift-water rescue technician has been pivotal in responding to significant incidents and mentoring new recruits.
Additionally, she has contributed to the development of a First Responder Resilience Program, further enhancing her role within the service.
"It's humbling and overwhelming to have been given this award," she expressed. "Looking at the other finalists and their resumes, everyone's impressive and very deserving in their own right." She also credited the exceptional opportunities, mentorship, and training at Fire and Rescue NSW for her growth.
Challenges and Contributions
Last year, Erin Pogmore experienced the devastating loss of her own home to a fire while she continued her life-saving work.
Reflecting on the award, she shared, "It's been lovely today, after all I've been through, to focus on the positive things in life and how I've supported the community."
She extended her gratitude to Rotary and the RESCA team for their efforts in acknowledging the contributions of emergency services workers and volunteers.

FRNSW Acting Commissioner, Jeremy Fewtrell, praised Pogmore for her outstanding dedication.
