Cambridge fire station welcomed visitors to the station as part of Open Cambridge on Friday, September 10th, 2021. The city’s fire station, on Parkside Place, took part in the longstanding event along with many other venues across the city
Due to precautions taken in response to the pandemic, the station itself remained closed, but the fire engines were parked outside and staff was on-hand to welcome visitors.
The event
During the event, members of the public could meet firefighters, look around the fire engines and learn more about the equipment used to save lives. Colleagues were also on hand to talk to residents about fire, water, and road safety as well as answer any questions about careers within the Service.
A highlight of the event was also the addition of storytime with Community Safety Coordinator, Odette Tattersall. Odette held a regular storytime throughout the day, which featured Cambridgeshire’s firefighting dragon, Jet, and had children gripped throughout.
The fire station will be taking part again on Friday, September 17, from 10 am until 4 pm.

Video tour
While the station itself is still closed to visitors, a video of the inside has been put together for the occasion.
Led by firefighters Tom and Lenny from Cambridge Blue Watch, the video gives a tour of the station and shows a little bit more about what the crews do behind the scenes, as they explain some of their most-used equipment.
