Fire Corps National Advisory Committee (NAC) met on November 8 in Greenbelt

Fire Corps Director Sarah Lee updated the National Advisory Committee (NAC) on the progress of Fire Corps since the group's last meeting, including initiatives and resources.

The Fire Corps National Advisory Committee (NAC) met on November 8 in Greenbelt, MD. The NAC, which is comprised of representatives from many national fire and emergency service organizations as well as other prominent leaders in the industry, came together to provide expertise and guidance for Fire Corps' activities and to discuss the direction of the program.

Fire Corps Director Sarah Lee updated the NAC on the progress of Fire Corps since the group's last meeting, including initiatives and resources. Lori Moon, Fire Corps Program Manager, reported on the status of the State Advocate Network. Paulette Aniskoff, Director of the Individual and Community Preparedness Division for FEMA, provided an overview of the Community Preparedness Division's initiatives, and welcomed feedback from the group.

In addition to the speakers, the NAC participated in a brainstorming session with the goal of ensuring the continued success of the program as well as reviewed the Fire Corps strategic plan and discussed methods for furthering the Fire Corps message. NAC members also discussed how Fire Corps teams are critical in meeting the needs of fire departments in areas such as emergency rehab.

During the meeting, Steve Ashbrock from the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) presented the annual Fire Corps Award of Excellence to Seymour Volunteer Fire Department's Support Services Division. The award is sponsored by IFSTA and Fire Protection Publications. Members of the Seymour Support Services Division were present to accept the award and provided a presentation outlining their program's success.
