The Working Patterns project team announces the launch of the working patterns case studies and case study implementation tool.

NFCC People Programme

The NFCC People Programme worked with services to identify new and innovative working patterns, which have been compiled into nine case studies. Case studies include supporting information about the whole time and on-call duty systems for UK services with useful information about international working patterns.

The case studies provide examples of innovative practices across services; with examples including changing ridership, banded on-call contracts, and flexible mobilizing. The project team also learned from services that have changed from a traditional 2-2-4 whole time model in response to local risk planning and community needs.

Implementation tool

A supporting implementation tool will allow services to evaluate new and existing working patterns against a measurable framework, which looks at effectiveness and efficiency indicators as well as competency, safety, wellbeing, EDI, and community measures.

Project Manager Nick Brennan added, "Thank you to all of those who have contributed to the project, by providing contact details for a SPOC, taking part in evaluation workshops, or sharing policy documentation from your service. We're pleased to be able to bring the project to fruition for the benefit of fire and rescue services."
