The London Fire Brigade has launched a Twitter feed
London Fire Brigade’s Twitter feed will encourage people to visit for the fire safety information

The London Fire Brigade launched its official twitter feed for the latest information regarding fire and emergency incidents and fire safety information.

Londoners will be able to get the latest information about major fires and emergency incidents in the capital as they happen with the launch of London Fire Brigade's official Twitter feed.

The launch follows a successful trial, during which the Brigade Tweeted on a range of high profile incidents. These included a fire affecting the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree, a large blaze at the O2 arena and a fire in a Deptford tower block where six people were rescued by firefighters.

The Brigade will use Twitter to keep the public and media informed during major incidents, for example, commuters will be able to find out if a blaze may affect their journey to work. The Twitter feed will also encourage people to visit the Brigade’s website for further fire safety information.

Rita Dexter, the Brigade’s Deputy Commissioner said: “When major incidents involving the Brigade happen, news spreads quickly. Londoners lead busy lives and need to have the latest information fast. By using Twitter, we’re able to get accurate information out more quickly.

“The Twitter feed will also help us to target new audiences with fire safety messages. By using Twitter to link to vital fire safety information on our own website, we can help make the capital an even safer place for residents and visitors.”
