Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews are working to clear a major spill of combustible liquid at Mascot, in Sydney's inner south.
The operation began around 4:30 am when two semi-trailers collided at the intersection of O'Riordan Street and Joyce Drive, near the Domestic Airport. NSW Ambulance paramedics treated both drivers on-site for minor injuries.

Both roads were closed to maintain community safety and enable effective emergency response
One of the trucks was carrying a shipping container loaded with 20,000 liters of a combustible hydrocarbon liquid, commonly used to make plastic.
The crash caused the container to rupture and a significant amount of the fluid to leak onto the roadway. Both roads were closed to maintain community safety and enable effective emergency response.
A traffic contra-flow has since been implemented, but the major thoroughfare remains congested. A crane has been brought in and lifted the impacted vehicle to a designated zone, where special measures to contain the liquid have been put in place.

Absorbent sand is being spread across the road to capture the spill. FRNSW is being supported by the NSW Environment Protection Authority in resolving the situation and minimizing impacts to the local environment.
