BAFE are focused on protecting assessors and fire extinguisher technicians from the threat of COVID-19. After reviewing the risk threat posed by COVID-19, BAFE have established new safety procedures to recommence fire extinguisher technician assessments for the BAFE SP101 Scheme.

BAFE are now in a position to accept bookings for assessments with immediate effect from June 7, 2020. To book an assessment, one may contact the BAFE office via email.

BAFE have also considered COVID-19 risk for BS 5306 Exam invigilation and have established new safety procedures for this to resume from June 13, 2020. Successfully passing this exam is part of fire extinguisher technician requirements to determine their competency under the BAFE SP101 Scheme.

External training providers

BAFE have provided the external training providers that use BAFE invigilation services with the candidate and invigilator exam procedure documents which must always be followed for the foreseeable future. These training providers will be required to communicate relevant information with their delegates.

BAFE must stress that they will not pressure anybody to do any assessment or BS 5306 Exam. The safety of everyone (assessors, technicians, training providers, exam delegates and BAFE appointed invigilators) is paramount and therefore the final decision will be the candidate’s.

Guideliness

All parties involved in these processes are required to wear a face covering (i.e. mask) with the addition of any other PPE one may wish to wear to ensure one feels safe (e.g. gloves/visor). Social distancing of 1m plus is compulsory at all times (following Government guidance) and one must make all other parties aware as soon as possible if oneself or any family member has displayed symptoms of coronavirus. NHS.UK note these symptoms as “a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to one’s sense of smell or taste.”

BAFE thanks all for their patience on this matter and will continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with feedback from BAFE appointed independent field assessors and invigilators, external training providers, fire extinguisher technicians and BS 5306 Exam candidates.
