The critical design phase, which is an important milestone within the scope of the Preveze Class Submarine Half-Life Modernization Project (PREVEZE-YÖM), was signed on February 8, 2019, between the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) and the ASELSAN-STMHAVELSAN-ASFAT business partnership, has been completed.

In the PREVEZE-YÖM project, where four Preveze Class Submarines will be modernized, the critical design phase has been approved by the SSB after the integration and acceptance of the Warship Automatic Identification (WAIS) and Internal Communications Systems, which must be delivered early for the TCG Preveze submarine.
In the most comprehensive submarine modernization project of the Naval Forces, important tasks such as the integration of war systems and sub-units will be designed and produced locally and nationally, thereby minimizing the foreign dependency on Turkey.

Within the scope of the project, Submarine Sonars, Satellite Communication Systems, Integrated Communication Systems, Navigation Radar, and Electronic Support Systems were designed and produced by ASELSAN. Guided Missile Weapon Control and Domestic Warship Automatic Identification Systems are also provided by ASELSAN.
ASELSAN will also apply absorbent materials to all masts on the sail to make it difficult to detect submarines by enemy elements by providing low visibility. The project in question covers the modernization of the TCG Preveze, TCG Sakarya, TCG 18 Mart, and TCG Anafartalar submarines, which are in the inventory of the Naval Forces Command.
