The Local Intervention Fire Education course gave local young people the chance to learn firefighting, first aid, and social skills
The Local Intervention Fire Education course took place at Kirkbymoorside fire station

Local young people successfully completed a North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service LIFE (Local Intervention Fire Education) course this week, which gave them the chance to learn firefighting, first aid, and social skills.

The course, which took place at Kirkbymoorside fire station, aimed to address the consequences of anti-social behaviour, raise self-esteem, and improve communication skills and teamwork. As part of it, the students were taught practical skills and took part in classroom sessions.

Passing Out ceremony

Today, at the end of the course all of the young people took part in a Passing Out ceremony, where they got the chance to showcase the skills they had learned by taking part in an exercise in front of their invited guests (family and friends).

County Councillor Val Arnold said: “It was very rewarding to see the students grow in confidence during the course, and to watch them complete these tasks in front of some very proud family members.

The young people on the course, whose ages ranged from 13 to 17, were referred from local schools and the course was funded by the North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner.
