Firefighters work hard to serve the communities they protect"

Firefighter Matt Crawford, who will be joining this Saturday’s expedition in aid of The Fire Fighters Charity, said: “There’ll be around ten of us taking part, using a nine-meter fire service ladder pitched outside Debenhams inside the Merry Hill Centre. Each of us will need to climb the ladder 121 times to reach 8,848m! The charity is a cause very close to all of our hearts. Its work supports injured firefighters and their families by offering rehabilitation, recuperation and psychological support."

"Firefighters work hard to serve the communities they protect. There are times when they put everything on the line to rescue someone, risking physical and mental injury, even the ultimate sacrifice which would see them leave loved ones behind. The organization needs over £8 million a year to meet the needs of its beneficiaries and relies on donations and fundraising.”

committed to supporting local services

The team’s ascent will start at around 10am on Saturday (21 April) and is expected to take five or six hours. Naomi Campbell, intu Merry Hill’s Community Development Manager, said: “As a center we are committed to supporting our local services. We are delighted to support Haden Cross Community Fire Station in this amazing challenge and hope the event is a huge success for this great cause!”
