The Commander of Fire and Rescue NSW’s New England/North-West region will address media outlets about an upcoming campaign to promote caravan fire safety during the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

FRNSW crews are planning a sweep through busy local caravan parks this week, checking the condition of smoke alarms and providing van owners with preventative safety advice.

FRNSW is embarking on a Tamworth Country Music Festival Fire Safety Campaign, reminding scores of visiting caravan

NSW Laws make it compulsory to have at least one working smoke alarm inside a van near the bed and another one positioned in the annex, if used as a sleeping area.

FRNSW is embarking on a Tamworth Country Music Festival Fire Safety Campaign, reminding scores of visiting caravan and campervanners that a working smoke alarm can often mean the difference between survival and a fire tragedy.

Best warning option

It’s not just the flames that can take your life, it’s also the toxic smoke that can render you unconscious and kill you during a fire,” said FRNSW New England/North-West Zone Commander, Tom Cooper.

Remember, you can’t smell when you’re asleep so a working smoke alarm is your best warning option if a fire breaks out, said Superintendent Cooper, adding “Just like at home, it’s also crucial you and your loved ones have a fire escape plan to get out of the caravan in the event of an emergency.”
