Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) and Rodeo-Hercules Fire announced they will conduct wildland fire “burn” training in Rodeo in conjunction with Phillips 66, Cal Fire and other agencies during morning hours beginning May 16th, 2021. Training will continue between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day thereafter from May 16 to May 27, 2021.
Phillips 66 personnel, along with other fire agencies, will participate in the training which will take place in Rodeo in the large open area bounded by Interstate 80 to the west, Willow Road to the south, and Cummings Skyway to the north.
Things included in the training
Training will involve setting controlled fires and extinguishing them under careful supervision. Firefighters will gain valuable experience and training through this controlled burn to help them better protect the communities they serve.
In addition to the training value derived, this fire prone area which has burned annually for the last several years, will represent much less of a wildfire threat to neighbors, including area homes and oil industry infrastructure.
Notice to the passerby
Passersby and residents in surrounding Crockett, Hercules and Rodeo may notice smoke and fire apparatus in the area. Please do not call 911 regarding this controlled training burn activity.
con Fire thanks all area residents for their cooperation and apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
