East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of three permanent executives to join the leadership team.

  • Hein Scheffer, joining as Director of Strategy Culture and Education in April 2022
  • Marika Stephenson, joining as Director of People Services on 1st December 2021
  • Emma De-Carteret, as Director of Corporate Affairs and Performance on 1st December 2021

Hein Scheffer

I am excited to make a constructive contribution to the Ambulance Trust, its people, and the communities it serves"

Hein is currently working at Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) as Director of People Transformation. He has worked across the Clinical Commissioning Groups of Luton, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and West Essex for several years and, before that, was Director of HR and OD at hospital trusts in both Plymouth and Blackpool.

Speaking about taking on the new role, Hein said, "I am excited about the opportunity to join the Executive Team at EEAST and to make a constructive contribution towards the Ambulance Trust, its people, and the communities it serves."

Best practices

"From the early discussions I have had with current staff at EEAST, I truly believe that the organization has the ability and capacity to become an outstanding organization, and I look forward to playing my part in ensuring that we build on the current efforts; to continue to develop and grow; whilst looking at best practices from others."

"I am particularly impressed with the large number of volunteers who are already engaged with EEAST and am keen to make them, even more, a part of the EEAST team in the future."

Marika Stephenson

Marika joins EEAST after 10 and a half years with Rio Tinto (FTSE 100) global mining company. Marika spent the first seven years based in Rio Tinto's HQ in London and the last few years based in their Montreal hub. She led a large HR team based across the US, Canada, South America, Africa, and Europe.

Marika said, "I am very excited and honored to be joining such a dedicated and hard-working team here at EEAST. You should all be very proud of what you have achieved over the last 18 months."

People's experience and well-being

Your knowledge, experience, and feedback are all essential to enabling our transformation journey"

"Improving your people's experience and well-being is my key priority and paramount to the service we provide within our communities."

"Your knowledge, experience, and feedback are all essential to enabling our transformation journey, so I encourage you to be open and passionate about what matters to you. Over the coming weeks and months, I look forward to meeting many of you across the region."

Emma De-Carteret

Emma De-Carteret is currently our Head of Governance and has worked for the Trust for over 11 years across a range of different teams and directorates.

Emma said, "It is an absolute privilege to be taking on my first director post here at EEAST. I’m excited to be able to continue working with everyone to make the changes that we need to see happen; for our patients, our staff, our volunteers, and everyone linked to our organization."

Hard work and commitment

"I know firsthand the hard work and commitment across all of our teams, and it’s so important that we continue to improve the way we listen, act on feedback, and continuously improve together. We have taken significant action over the last couple of years in a challenging period for everyone, and I am looking forward to continuing this journey with you all."

EEAST will be shortly announcing the names of the people we have appointed to the positions of Director of Integration and Interim Medical Director once their employment checks have been concluded.
