The new apprenticeships will be based on outcomes rather than qualifications & feature assessment at end of program

With the recent National Apprenticeship Week, Chubb Fire & Security Ltd. is playing a lead role in determining new Apprenticeship standards and assessment criteria for The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills Trailblazer initiative. Chubb is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp.

Including more than 1,000 employers from 70 different industries, the government-led Trailblazer initiative is designed to create a definitive list of the skills, knowledge and behaviours that employers would expect from qualified apprentices. It also aims to further the reputation of apprenticeships so they are perceived with the same level of esteem as a university degree.

The new apprenticeships will be based on outcomes rather than qualifications and feature an assessment at the end of the program with streamlined criteria.

Chubb retained more than 40 percent of its apprentices

Currently, Chubb has 48 apprentices working at 21 branches nationwide. Over the past 20 years, Chubb has retained more than 40 percent of its apprentices, placing them into full-time jobs.

It will help us instill Chubb values at the earliest opportunity and will afford us a higher quality of work with a clear return on investment.”

Offers two apprenticeship tracks

Chubb offers two apprenticeship tracks: a three-year Chubb Fire & Security apprenticeship to earn Level 3 qualifications and a four-year Chubb Systems apprenticeship to earn Level 4 qualifications.

Following the submission of the new standards on June 5, 2015, assessment plans will be agreed by Oct. 2, 2015 with implementation to begin in 2016. It is expected that the current framework-based apprenticeships will not be funded for the calendar year 2017/18.
