Registering with FEMA starts the application process for federal and territory assistance related to property losses directly caused by the events of Sept 29-Oct. 6, 2009

The Disaster Recovery Center at the Lee Center in Utulei will be open daily except for Sundays

The deadline to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and to turn in a completed U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan application is only a few days away.

FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer Kenneth R. Tingman said the deadline for American Samoa residents to apply for disaster assistance and return a completed SBA loan application for damages or losses caused by the earthquake, tsunami and flooding is at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

The Disaster Recovery Center at the Lee Center in Utulei will be open daily except for Sundays, through Monday, November 30.

"This is a busy time of year but no one should be too busy to apply for unmet needs," Tingman said. "I urge any resident with losses, or suspected damages from this disaster, to consider registering now rather than waiting until the last few remaining days before the application period ends."

Federal and Territory recovery aid includes grants for emergency disaster housing and essential repairs

People who have registered with the American Red Cross or other helping agencies must also register with FEMA to access federal and Territory assistance.
"Individuals and business owners should submit their application as quickly as possible to avoid missing the November 30th deadline," said Penney Rimbey, SBA's Officer in Charge.

Federal and Territory recovery aid includes grants for emergency disaster housing and essential repairs, individual and household grants for necessities not covered by insurance, or other sources and low-interest loans from the SBA. Anyone unable to visit the SBA at the Disaster Recovery Center can call (684) 633-0920 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. local time, Monday through Saturday.
