Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) firefighters have saved a historic boat shed from fire on the Parramatta River at Putney, in Sydney's north-west.
More than 30 firefighters and eight fire trucks were deployed to Waterview Street as flames engulfed a small building just after 4 am.
The blaze then threatened to spread to a nearby complex, which has significance to Australia's early colonial history and has been used as a boat-building, servicing, and repair facility since the 1930s.

Firefighters specializing in hazardous materials (HAZMAT) response used materials on-site to reduce firefighting water run-off, with the Port Authority of NSW attending the scene to help monitor the situation.
Experts from FRNSW's Fire Investigation and Research Unit (FIRU) will work with NSW Police to determine where and how the fire started.
